Help for Shopping Buddy Service

DIAL provide and deliver a confidential information advice and support service to disabled people, their carers and family members within the Nuneaton and Bedworth areas. The project is to enhance the shop mobility service in Nuneaton and Bedworth.

By recruiting, training and providing volunteers who will act as shopping buddies, their role will be to help and support people as they use the service.

A shopping buddy will accompany and assist those people who may find difficulty in carrying goods, reaching goods displayed on high shelves, using changing facilities etc.

They will assist with any access issue that may arise when the scooter/wheelchair user is using the Town Centre facilities.

Shopping buddies would receive training on confidentiality, handling money, personal safety.

Shopping buddies will be required to undertake a Criminal Bureau Check.

This additional service will give people an opportunity to be more independent (without relying on a family member to accompany them) and will be offered to people who use shop mobility in Nuneaton and Bedworth.

DIAL were awarded £3,178 from the Community Plan Fund 2008.
